Anti-wrinkle treatment with Botulinum toxin Type A
What is Botox?
Botulinum toxin is a protein and neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin type A is successfully used to treat conditions that in some way involve spasms and involuntary muscle contractions.
Botulinum toxin type A manufactured for cosmetic use (also commercially known as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin) is a purified form of botulinum toxin A, meaning there’s no botulism risk when used properly. It works by blocking the nerves that contract muscles, softening the appearance of wrinkles and is the most popular non-surgical procedure used to treat expression lines predominantly in the forehead and around the eyes. Botox is most effective on wrinkles that haven’t quite set — “dynamic” wrinkles that appear while you’re moving your face, such as when you frown.
Botox temporarily weakens the muscles that cause the skin to wrinkle creating a smooth, more youthful appearance. The effects from Botox will last four to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax.
Benefits of this rejuvenation treatment include:
- Reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
- Fresher, younger appearance.
- Non permanent, with natural breakdown.
- Normal smiling and other facial expressions maintained. Only unwanted wrinkles and lines reduced.
- Proven safe with low risk.
- The skin appears dramatically smoother.
- Facial lines disappear or diminish dramatically in 4-14 days.
- The creation of more wrinkles is prevented. •Normal activities can be resumed immediately.
- It only takes 4-5 days for the injections to begin to take effect and 10 – 14 days for full effect.
What to expect at the appointment
The dentist will check your medical history, explains to you what is going to happen, then a topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the areas of injections and left for about 10 minutes . Prior to the injections, clinical photographs are taken. The injection points might be marked on the skin prior to the injection. The treatment is very quick and takes around ten minutes and any discomfort is short lived. The doctor will ask you to frown and then relax the muscles to establish where to inject. The treatment consists of a small series of injections that last about 3 seconds. Discomfort is minimal and afterwards a cold pack may be applied to reduce and swelling.
Possible side effects
Temporary bruising is the most common side effect of Botox. Headaches, which resolve in 24-48 hours, can occur, but this is rare. A small percentage of patients may develop eyelid drooping. This usually resolves in three weeks. This usually happens when the Botox moves around so you shouldn’t rub the treated area for 12 hours after injection or lay down for four to six hours.
Who Should Not Receive Botox?
Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a neurological disease should not use Botox.
The cost of anti-wrinkle treatment with Botulinum Toxin Type A at Caspian dental clinic is not necessarily the cheapest, but we are the safest, The treatment is carried out by Dr Kimia Mirzakhani who has 13 years of experience with anti –wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers in a clean and relaxing environment . Some people host Botox® parties — where several women and men gather together for cocktails and wrinkle-banishing injections for a fraction of the cost of treatment in a well-established clinic. These parties are not safe as the experience and training of the operating practitioner cannot be examined and proven, the medical history of the recipient is usually overlooked and the treatment provided is not clinically documented. Also should an emergency rise, the emergency drugs and equipment are not usually available at such venues. At Caspian, we are committed to the best practice, the medical history of the candidate will be checked to make sure that the anti-wrinkle treatment is safe for him or her, explain the procedure, answer any questions and make a record of batch number of the botulinum toxin type A vial and expiry date. Then the solution is reconstituted to the correct concentration and in a sterile manner. The cost of the treatment starts from £190 for one area of treatment.
